We live in a post-community society where a growing number of youth are becoming disaffected and atomized from the world. The isolating effects of widespread algorithmic addictions, para-social relationships and social contagion are novel issues the youth of today struggle to navigate. Ubiquitous terms such as bed rotting, doom scrolling, rage bait, and brain rotted speak to this new post-community landscape we find ourselves in. Specifically to the behaviors of frustration and hopelessness that have replaced and prevent the functional community. This is not a problem that is solved but a weight that is bore, usually alone, as screen time continues to inevitably eat away at the world, people, and connections around us. From this struggle however comes an emerging counter culture that yearns to simply belong. Underground by necessity, these flare ups of passion exist in rented basements, tiny bedrooms and underpasses of the city of Ottawa. These expressions are not marketable or spread. Advertised or curated. These sounds are not generic or mainstream. Profitable or accepted. These songs are not told what to do, they can't be. They are the screams, notes, breaths and noises of the disaffected youth. The underground music of a broken society. Pushing the boundaries of both music and the social status-quo. The proof of life that provides the genesis of community. May it be heard by another and made real! Through sheer force of honest expression and cheering friends; community is still fighting to exist underground. Beyond genre, clout and scene disaffected music is being made for the disaffected age. We will strive to give these expressions a place to be heard. No matter how they come or what drives them. Our primary mission is to give expression a stage, not define it.
